چکیده

Integrins are a large family of cell– extracellular matrix (ECM) and cell–cell adhesion molecules that regulate development and tissue homeostasis by controlling cell migration, survival, proliferation and differentiation (Hynes, 2002). They are non-covalently associated heterodimers consisting of aand bsubunits. On the cell surface, integrins exist in a conformation with either high (active) or low (inactive) ligand affinity. Upon activation (inside-out signalling) (Moser et al., 2009), integrins cluster and form nascent focal adhesions, which eventually mature into focal adhesions (FAs) (outside-in signalling) (Legate et al., 2009; Geiger and Yamada, 2011). Major functions of integrins in FAs include their ability to link the ECM to the actin cytoskeleton and to fine tune growth factor receptor signalling (Legate et al., 2009).

Integrin Linked Kinase (X-ILK) Function during Embryonic Development and within Adult Tissues of Xenopus laevis

Integrin linked kinase (ILK) is a serine/threonine protein kinase implicated in the phosphatidylinositol 3’kinase (PI3’K) pathway. Integrin linked kinase has been investigated in different organisms such as mammalian systems (human, mice, rat), insects (Drosophila) and nematodes (Cenorhabditis elegans), however to date little data regarding ILK research on amphibians has been reported. In...

Integrin signalling at a glance.

It has been brought to our attention that there is an error in the poster published in association with this article. Non-phosphorylated ICAP1 is shown to bind to the cytoplasmic tails of integrin β-subunits, whereas Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII)-mediated phosphorylation of ICAP1 is depicted as driving dissociation of ICAP1 from integrin β-tails. Although ICAP1 is indeed ...

Drosophila Integrin-Linked Kinase Is Required at Sites of Integrin Adhesion to Link the Cytoskeleton to the Plasma Membrane

Integrin-linked kinase (ILK) was identified by its interaction with the cytoplasmic tail of human beta1 integrin and previous data suggest that ILK is a component of diverse signaling pathways, including integrin, Wnt, and protein kinase B. Here we show that the absence of ILK function in Drosophila causes defects similar to loss of integrin adhesion, but not similar to loss of these signaling ...

Contributions of integrin-linked kinase to breast cancer metastasis and tumourigenesis

Metastasis contributes to more than 90% of mortality in breast cancer. Critical stages in the development of aggressive breast cancer include growth of the primary tumours, and their abilities to spread to distant organs, colonize and establish an independent blood supply. The integrin family of cell adhesion receptors is essential to breast cancer progression. Furthermore, integrin-linked kina...

Integrin-linked kinase silencing induces a S/G2/M phases cell cycle slowing and modulates metastasis-related genes in SGC7901 human gastric carcinoma cells.

BACKGROUND AND AIM Integrin-linked kinase has been implicated in metastasis of human tumors. Recent studies have also shown that the down-regulation of integrin-linked kinase has anti-tumor potential by inhibiting the metastatic potential of several types of cultured human cancer cells. However, the mechanism by which integrin-linked kinase regulates metastasis in human gastric carcinoma is not...

Integrin-linked protein kinase regulates fibronectin matrix assembly, E-cadherin expression, and tumorigenicity.

Fibronectin (Fn) matrix plays important roles in many biological processes including morphogenesis and tumorigenesis. Recent studies have demonstrated a critical role of integrin cytoplasmic domains in regulating Fn matrix assembly, implying that intracellular integrin-binding proteins may be involved in controlling extracellular Fn matrix assembly. We report here that overexpression of integri...
